supreme x murakami

picture-12.png

im not sure how many people kanye considers a “modern day warhol” but i’m pretty sure he’s mentioned both david lachapelle and takashi murakami before.

murakami got serious momentum from the kanye album art, and it just keeps building.

its ironic to write a ‘death of supreme’ post, and then tout their new products the next day, but shit like that doesn’t matter when you write what you want, when you want to!!

supreme artist collaborations annihilate every other street lifestyle/culture/cheesy marketing term brand out there. these are skateboard decks … designed by one of the most influential japanese pop artists, ever. smarten up, lames.

if these aren’t already next to kanye’s jetsons prints, they will be soon.

Kanye West X So_Me

picture-7.png

wordpress doesn’t support onsmash videos, but they should.

kanye west gets assistance from parisian artist/illustrator so_me for the good life video (here). HERE’S ANOTHER HIT (barry bonds), and a fresh video.

i thought it was parra, who has nicer type.  my fault.

so_me also did the justice ‘dance’ video:

and it’s STILL too bad this one didn’t get printed:

wilbon JR (birdcall) keep hatin’.

nahright was on it.

Kanye X Murakami

It’s a love/hate with Kanye. But really. I said it before, and I’ll say it again: Who else gets Takashi Murakami for cover art? The only problem is … its not the real album cover, and it doesn’t even look good.

It’s on order.  You should get it too.  It’s a nice addition to your workspace.

nike co.jp

“viral” videos = dead.  Except for Nike short films or commercials from Japan … which I think are more creative/captivating than anything viral in the US anyways. I’m biased, I love 97% of the work Nike’s agency(s) do.

I’m not really sure how to describe this … but it features three characters who live normal lives, until they’re each enhanced by a different superpower. That superpower being one of the product features of the Nike Free 7. The animation is wild.

the holy grail.

Nike finally launched their 25th anniversary/web database tribute to the Air Force One:  1thology.  Even if you don’t collect/appreciate/like sneakers … play around on this site anyways.  You can sort by color, style, and year the shoes came out.  Wow.

art of streetwear / part 2.1

Had I found this before I wrote about the Be@rbricks, it would’ve been included.  A quick piece from the BBC about Japanese toys:

the art of streetwear / part two

In case you missed part one
————–

The Be@rbrick by Medicom Toy Company

Medicom is a Japanese company that originated back in 1996. Their first products were 12-inch action figures, but they also developed a toy character called a Be@rbrick. They produced several series’ of the standard “100%” Be@rbrick (which is about 4 inches tall), and they’re sold by ‘blind assortment’ — which means the boxes they come in are like opening a pack of baseball cards, you never know which figure you’re going to get. Some have the probability of 1/6 boxes, while others are much higher (1/96). Here’s the site for the latest release, series 13. For special projects, they started creating 400% (12 inches) and 1000% (about 2.5 feet) size Be@rbricks.

Medicom is truly a toy company for big kids, and they’ve always been driven by culture. As a curator, they’ve chosen an eclectic mix from so many avenues of art, design, and entertainment. Characters from comic books, cereal boxes, cartoons, videogames, movies. Artists from the fashion, and design worlds. And as of the last few years, the founders and innovators of street culture.  Like a New Era fitted, the Be@rbrick has been a canvas used over and over by street brands and artists. It was one of the first products to be embraced by the culture for collaboration.
